Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has announced he will be seeking treatment for substance abuse.

On Friday, the lead singer and guitarist had a meltdown onstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, complaining that the band’s time on stage was being cut short and dropping over 20 f-bombs.

In addition to the announcement that Armstrong will be entering rehab, the band has apologized to the festival’s attendees and corporate sponsors. "Green Day wants to apologize to those they offended at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas," a band representative told TMZ.

Given the circumstances, the rep added, "The band regretfully must postpone some of their upcoming promotional appearances.”

In the wake of Amrstrong’s meltdown, it was widely reported that Green Day had had its time at the festival abruptly cut short by as much as 20 minutes. However, in the words of an Associated Press report on the situation, “[T]he band apologized for the incident and said [its] set was not cut short by Clear Channel, the host of the two-day festival.”

At the end of his tirade, Armstrong, 40, proceeded to smash his guitar onstage, completely destroying the instrument. The band then hurriedly left the stage.

One minute f---ing left. You're gonna give me one f---ing minute? Look at that f---ing sign right there -- one minute. Let me f---ing tell you something, let me tell you something, I've been around since f---ing 198-f---ing-8. And you're gonna give me one f---ing minute? You've gotta be f---ing kidding me! You're f---ing kidding me. What the f---! I'm not f---ing Justin Bieber, you motherf---ers. You've gotta be f---ing joking. This is a f---ing joke. I got one minute -- one minute left. This month, Green Day had to cancel an appearance at a festival in Italy after Armstrong was reportedly hospitalized for “gastric problems.” It is unknown whether this hospitalization was related to his now-apparent issues with substance abuse.
