“Grey’s Anatomy” is one episode away from airing the Season 11 winter finale. That means viewers can anticipate Shonda Rhimes, mastermind behind the medical drama, to pull out all the stops before the show concludes for the year -- specifically in episode 8. According to the synopsis for “Risk,” viewers will be introduced to a whole slew of drama ranging from a sonogram nightmare to a hellish sibling rivalry.

No, we’re not talking about Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Maggie (Kelly McCreary); we’re actually referring to the Shepard’s and their current tense situation. In “Could We Start Again, Please,” a family member, who was involved in one of Amelia’s (Caterina Scorsone) cases, started loudly revealing the personal and troubling details of the doctor’s past addiction. So loud that Owen (Kevin McKidd) approached Derek (Patrick Dempsey) to ask him if he thought Amelia was the best person to be head of the neuro department. His reply? Crickets.

However, after getting a slap of reality from Meredith, Derek later confronted Owen and the members of the board to express that what he did was petty. He didn’t stand up for his sister because he wanted his position back. “She should stay where she is, Owen,” he said, adding that he couldn’t do the job any better.

Following Derek’s change of heart, Amelia revealed to her brother that she was moving out. However, according to Scorsone, it doesn’t look like her character will be packing her bags anytime soon.

“She’s still lingering in the house a little bit,” she revealed to TVLine about Thursday night’s episode. “She knows he’s sorry, and she knows that he’s really struggling. One of the things Amelia’s demons have given her is a deep well of compassion.”

In episode 7, Derek opened up to his sister about the current torment he’s been feeling. “I don’t know who I am anymore,” he admitted. “I’m miserable. All I do is hurt… the last people I want to hurt.”

Despite Derek’s apology, Amelia won’t be able to let go of Derek’s betrayal so easily. Scorsone explained that her on-screen brother’s behavior “fundamentally changes the way Amelia sees him, and the way she sees the dynamic of their relationship. She can forgive but she won’t forget.”
