Is it just us, or does anyone else think Shonda Rhimes is an evil genius?

The mastermind behind the hit ABC series, “Grey’s Anatomy,” left fans with a nail-bitter of an ending when the show aired its Season 10 finale: Cristina Yang had officially left Grey Sloan Memorial hospital for Switzerland – and she took the hot intern Shane with her, both Bailey and Karev were offered Yang’s former seat on the board and Richard had met the daughter he never knew existed who just also happened to be Yang’s replacement. Intense stuff, guys.

But the biggest cliffhanger Rhimes left us with was the problematic situation going on between Meredith and Derek. During episode 24, Meredith confessed to her husband that she had no interest in moving to Washington, which is where Derek was offered a job. He argues with her but ultimately Meredith makes her case that she doesn’t want her career to come second to Derek’s, much like what happened to her parents.

Derek clearly wants to follow in the footsteps of Cristina and Burke by starting a new chapter in his life. But will it be written without Meredith? That’s the question Rhimes left us with until Season 11 makes its debut on the small screen.

Fans speculated that this was the end for our favorite TV couple, but TV Line said otherwise. According to the publication, “a Mer-Der break-up seems unlikely” considering the two actors have both been signed for a two-year contract with the show. Looks like Mer-Der lives on!

But don’t get too excited. Some buzz has hinted the couple will face their biggest problems yet when “Grey’s Anatomy” returns for its new season.

“The duo are about to face one of their more challenging seasons in recent memory, which makes the timing of Cristina’s exit horrible for Mer,” TV Line explained.

So, with whom will Meredith be able to dance out her problems? Guess our favorite surgeon will be holding auditions for a new partner-in-crime -- or should we say partner-in-disco?
