The Season 12 premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” returned to its roots Thursday night with the show’s iconic witty banter and lighter-toned drama. And because of that, it left us longing for a fan favorite character who stole our hearts during the early seasons of the hit ABC medical drama: Cristina Yang (Sandra OH).

And apparently, fans aren’t the only ones who miss the surgeon that left Seattle in Season 10 to run her own cardiothorassic surgery in Switzerland. During an Entertainment Weekly Q&A, Kevin McKidd, who portrays Owen – Cristina’s former lover, dished that he too misses the brilliant doctor. That’s why the actor revealed if he could take on Shonda Rhimes’ role of showrunner, he’d bring back the beloved character.

“If I could be Shonda for a day, I’d bring Cristina back for a few episodes and see what that did to the relationship – and especially Owen,” McKidd responded to fans, revealing in a separate comment that the brilliant surgeon is his favorite character. “Cristina is just an awesome bada--."

And maybe McKidd’s dream of bringing Oh back into the “Grey’s Anatomy” storyline isn’t so far fetched after all! During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in May 2014, Oh revealed that she’d be open to taking on a guest role on “Grey’s Anatomy” in the future – specifically the series finale.

“We talked about that when I told [Rhimes] I was going to leave but we haven’t talked about it again. There are certain things that Shonda and I talk about once and then we leave it because we want things to happen without pressure,” she stated. “I told her, ‘If you guys want to finish it out however you want to finish it out, I’d be more than happy to come back. And if it doesn’t fit in that way, I totally understand.”

Oh, we think Rhimes will find a way to include Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) soul mate into the final storyline – after all, “Grey’ Anatomy” has “always been a love story between Meredith and Cristina,” Rhimes told TVLine in September 2014.
