For any woman, growing older can be a daunting and scary reality, but for a model whose looks are her most valuable asset, it could mean the end of a prosperous and lucrative career.

The novelist Muriel Spark once said that a woman reaches her prime at the ripe old age of 30.

While ageing may seem to be more of a curse than a cause for celebration in the fashion world, some models are changing the game and setting a new trend.

Supermodels such as Gisele Bundchen, Guinevere Van Seenus and Adriana Lima are just a few of those still at the top of their game despite having passed the dreaded milestone.

At the age of 31, Bundchen continues to front huge fashion campaigns, including those of Versace and Givenchy, while the 34-year-old catwalk veteran Van Seenus replaced 15-year-old actress and model Hailee Steinfeld last year as the face of luxury brand Mui Mui.

Brazilian model Lima, 30, also has an impressive résumé. In addition to being the face of the Brazilian luxury brand Forum for both its autumn/winter and spring/summer collections, she has worked with some of the top photographers in the industry, including Russell James, Inez van Lamsweerdes and David Sims.

It just goes to show that it takes more than remarkable good looks to stay in fashion. Grown-up-glamour and timeless beauty are just a couple of the attributes these catwalk stars possess, which will help them to remain in high demand for years to come.

We have a look at a few of the other mature models who are showing younger teenage waifs just how it's done.
