Apparently online retailer Amazon is behind the recent "Grand Theft Auto 5" leaks.

Rockstar Games is examing Amazon's role in the recent "GTA 5" gameplay leaks, according to Games Industry International. A significant amount of "GTA 5" fans who pre-ordered the game via Amazon have received copies of the game prior to its official Sept. 17 release. Rockstar issued this comment to Games Industry International.

"We are in the process of investigating early 'sales' to determine how and why that is occurring."

One gamer posted "GTA 5" gameplay footage on their Vine account. Another gamer posted videos of themselves while playing "GTA 5" days before the game's official Sept. 17 release date on Instagram. It's possible that both of these consumers received their copies of "GTA 5" early because they pre-ordered the game on Amazon.

However, Rockstar expected for there to be early leaks, issuing this statement on its website last week.

It remains to be seen what conclusion Rockstar will come to once it concludes its investigation into these leaks. Time will tell.
