'GTA 5' PC Release Date This Fall: Will The Game Be Available On OS X?

“Grand Theft Auto 5” will launch for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 during the third or fourth quarter this year, but many “GTA” fans want to see the 2013 best-selling action-adventure title on the OS X platform.

“Grand Theft Auto III,” which launched in 2001, is available for Mac as well as other Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad and iPad Mini. 2004’s “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” is also available for the same devices.

Will New York City-based Rockstar Games, which is owned by Take-Two Interactive (NASDAQ: TTWO), produce a version of the game for Mac users? Maybe, though it doesn’t seem likely. The developer is probably working pretty hard on the PC, Xbox One and PS4 versions of the title.

“Grand Theft Auto IV,” which launched in 2008, was only available for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The last game Rockstar launched for OS X was 2012’s “Max Payne 3,” which was also available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Rockstar announced “GTA 5” would be coming to the PC, Xbox One and PS4 last month. The developer also promised the PC version will be an enhanced experience.

“'Grand Theft Auto V’ will take full advantage of the power of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC with across-the-board graphical and technical improvements to deliver a stunning new level of detail,” the developer said on the Rockstar Newsire in June. “Increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic, and enhanced resolutions all work together to bring new life to the cities, towns, deserts and oceans of Rockstar North’s epic reimagining of Southern California.”

“The new generation upgrades also extend to ‘Grand Theft Auto Online,’ an ever-evolving ‘Grand Theft Auto’ universe. Rise through the criminal ranks by banding together to complete Jobs for cash, purchase properties, vehicles and character upgrades, compete in traditional competitive modes, or create your own content to play and share with the’ Grand Theft Auto’ community,” the developer said.

In its Steam listing, Rockstar assured fans the PC version” will take full advantage of the power of PC to deliver across-the-board enhancements including increased resolution and graphical detail, denser traffic, greater draw distances, upgraded AI, new wildlife, and advanced weather and damage effects for the ultimate open world experience.”

The PC version will also feature a video editor created for advanced movie making, as well as new Jobs, a collection of new weapons, properties, vehicles and character upgrades.
