Writer and director James Gunn recently participated in a Periscope session via Screenrant to answer questions about the forthcoming Marvel film “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” He revealed that it features fewer characters than the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” and there will be a new actor joining the cast.

“There’s just too many characters so you can’t concentrate on one and really get to know that character, and I really want to get to know the characters that we know better, and yeah, we will be introducing a new character,” he said.

“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” is going to be an emotional film, he said. It is set to feature big battles, action sequences, vibrant locations, picturesque sets and great visuals but the focal point will be the sentiments of the aliens. It will also provide an in-depth look at each character and to make this work Gunn had to drop one key character.

“I had another big character in my original draft and it was just getting too busy. I took that character out. And it’s a character I like a lot and hope to work with in the future but I just didn’t have room for that person, that character,” said Gunn. He has already finished the first draft of the film’s script and according to him it is a “70-page combination of a script and a treatment.” He also shared the photo of the first page of the script on his Facebook and Twitter account.

Kevin Feige is producing and Chris Pratt is set to return as Peter Quill/Star-Lord. Other cast members have yet to be revealed.

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” which released in 3D and IMAX 3D last Aug. 1, was the third highest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after “The Avengers” and “Iron Man 3.” It made $333.2 million at the domestic box office and an estimated $441 in other countries. It was also praised by critics for its stunning visuals and enthralling story line.
