The Guitar Hero franchise's next game will be released in June, featuring rock group Aerosmith.

Activision says Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will let gamers track the band's career from their first gig to today.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry says that the band is pioneering a way to helping rebuild the music industry in the video game format.

Guitar Hero games allow users to play along with songs on the screen using a simplified guitar which uses large colorful buttons instead of strings.

It's what's happening now, and it's only going to build more momentum in the future, he said. It's a massive change for the music business.

The game will feature scores of Aerosmith's songs and songs from other artists that the band has performed or inspired, according to an Activision statement. Venues where the band has appeared will also be included in the game.

In addition, Aerosmith's Dream On song will be available for a free download for the Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock game It will be available from February 16 to 18 at the online stores for Microsoft's Xbox and Sony's Playstation.
