Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

The famous children's book author, best known for his rhyming words and inspirational sayings, would have celebrated a birthday March 2. Dr. Seuss passed away on Sept. 24, 1991 of throat cancer.

Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel, published 44 children's books often including imaginative characters and quirky sayings.

Some of his bestselling books include Green Eggs and Ham,' The Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, Horton Hears a Who! and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. A number of his books have been adapted into television specials, feature films and a Broadway musical.

March 2, his birthday, has been adopted as the annual National Read Across America Day, an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association.
