According to the New York Daily News, a young student sprayed fellow students with pepper spray at the Academy for Social Action. Eight youngsters went to the hospital with injuries described as minor.
The mid-afternoon event was responded to by police, who issued a summons to the 14-year-old Harlem girl.
The school last was in the news in 2010. At that time its founding Principal Crystal Simmons was fired for a lesbian affair with an assistant. In addition, the city's 2011 environment survey of the school showed that 27 percent of students felt unsafe in halls and bathrooms.
