Stocks pared losses to trade flat on Monday as declines in resource shares were tempered by gains in the healthcare sector after Congress passed a healthcare reform bill following months of debate.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> edged up gained 6.96 points, or 0.06 percent, to 10,748.94. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> dropped 0.29 points, or 0.02 percent, to 1,159.61. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 2.81 points, or 0.12 percent, to 2,377.22.
