The BSkyB TV series "The British" will have a high-profile cast of native UK celebrities, like actors Russell Brand and Dame Helen Mirren, and singer Jessie J. Notable people from the fields of entertainment, politics, sport, science and history have agreed to take part in the new program.

Some other names involved in the project are Sir Terry Wogan, Lord Robert Winston, Colin Jackson and Frank Lampard, claims The Sun.

The historical series covers 2000 years of British history, according to the HollyWood Reporter. The stars will be featured on the educational program airing on BSkyB's Sky Atlantic throughout the United Kingdom, starting Sept. 6 at 9 p.m..

The Sun reports that certain scenes from history will be recreated. Some moments will use CGI technology.

The show will focus on events from the inception of Great Britain and Ireland, all throughout the country's history until the Coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953. Each cast member will take on topics of their birth nation's history.

Mirren will be covering the topic of William Shakespeare, according to Express.co.uk.

"If you wanted to teach someone who knew absolutely nothing about the British people, it would be very good to guide them to Shakespeare," the British news source reports that the Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe winning actress said. "You could see the foolishness, the humour, the brutality - it's all in almost every play."

Look.co.uk feels that the show will be "a history lesson with a difference!" The publication quoted Brand as saying "It's nice to be able to reach back into the past and feel that you have an identity that's built on an oceanic, rolling history."

"For me, in modern Britain what we have to do is remind ourselves of our history," said Chelsea soccer player Lampard when talking about the new series, according to Digital Spy. "Try and live up to the standards that the great people who have fought wars for us and what they've given us in the past."

There are no reports on what specific topics other members of the shows cast will be covering throughout the history of Britain. With a variety of stars ranging from the likes of Mirren to Brand, the show will likely offer a multitude of perspectives and tones.
