Apple introduced Dark Mode on iOS 13, allowing users to enjoy a darker colored interface that's more comfortable to use especially in dimly-lit settings. This theme is very different from the traditionally brighter light theme used on iPhones and other Apple devices in years past, and is something that Apple fans have been longing for a long time.

While users can manually turn Dark Mode on or off by toggling the switch in Control Center or by making their way through the Settings app, there's a way for them to configure it so that it will automatically turn itself on and off depending on the time of day. This will make it easier for users to switch between a light theme during the day, as well as switch to a dark theme at night.

Here's how to set Dark Mode so that it will automatically turn on and off at specific times of the day, as per The Verge:

  • First, make sure to check if the device is running iOS 13 or newer. This can be done by going to Settings, then to General, then tapping on Software Update. Not all Apple devices can run on iOS 13 (or its equivalent). IOS 13 is limited to the iPhone 6S or iPad Air 2 and newer devices.
  • Next, after making sure that the device is running on iOS 13, open the Settings app then proceed to Display & Brightness.
  • Look for Appearance and toggle the Automatic setting under that. After that, tap on the Options button to set the Appearance Schedule. Users can then choose “Sunset to Sunrise” or to set the time for the device to use a darker colored theme.

Choosing Sunset to Sunrise will result in the iOS 13 device automatically changing from light to dark when the sun goes down. This feature checks the device's location to make it work.

Following these steps ensures that the iOS 13 device will switch from light to dark based on the user's preferred settings. Those who don't want their iPhone or iOS 13 device to automatically switch from light to dark can simply turn the feature off.
