Here’s What ‘The Princess Bride’ Cast Looks Like 30 Years Later

There are some romance-adventure-comedy-fantasy-drama films that just stick with you, and “The Princess Bride” is definitely one of them.

From its actors to its quotes to its interesting journey of a story, this film stands the test of time. That’s a good thing, considering that it is now officially 30 years old. Viewers have been able to join the characters on their quest since the movie was first released in theaters on Sept. 25, 1987.

So, what’s been going on with the cast since they starred in this fantastical film? See for yourself.

Cary Elwes (Westley)

Though he started his acting career close to 10 years prior, “The Princess Bride” was Elwes real breakout moment. His character was at the center of the story, which followed him as he tried to rescue his true love Buttercup/The Princess Bride. Now, he’s currently working on more than five movies at once. That’s quite the journey in and of itself. One of his movies, “Billionaire Boys Club,” has him playing Andy Warhol alongside Taron Egerton, Ansel Elgort and Emma Roberts.

Robin Wright (Buttercup/The Princess Bride)

The Princess Bride herself, Wright has become one of the top actresses. After her role in this cult film, she’s gone on to do countless movies and is now heating up TV as Claire Underwood in Netflix’s hit series “House of Cards.” She’s also working on the upcoming “Blade Runner” sequel and the “Justice League” film.

Chris Sarandon (Prince Humperdinck)

Sarandon worked steadily before “The Princess Diaries” and has continued to do the same after it. Throughout the years, he’s had many other film credits, as well as short-term TV roles. Recently, he had a role on Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black” in 2016 and voiced Count Dracula in the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” TV series in 2017.

Andre the Giant (Fezzik)

Sadly, Andre never got to see how big of a cult classic this movie became because he died only six years after the film was released. As a French wrestler, he continued to do just that until he died in 1993 in France at the age of 46.

Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya)

He played Rube on “Dead Like Me” and Jason Gideon on “Criminal Minds,” so it is clear that Patinkin has a way of portraying TV show characters that have a purpose and stand out. Now, he’s doing just that on “Homeland” as Saul Berenson while filming couple movies, including “Wonder” with Julia Roberts.

Wallace Shawn (Vizzini)

Shawn is the actor who you’ve seen in probably everything you’ve ever watched. He’s incredibly recognizable and memorable, and, though he was already pretty successful in acting before this film, we still have to thank this movie for pushing him forward even more to give us tons of movies and shows with him in it. He voiced Rex in “Toy Story,” played William Halsey on “The L Word,” was Cyrus Rose on “Gossip Girl” and is now Albert in the upcoming film “Someone Else’s Wedding.”

Fred Savage (The Grandson)

This little boy grew up and had a journey of his own. Savage is now not just an accomplished actor who’s currently starring in Netflix’s “Friends from College,” but also a director. He’s directed episodes of “Happy Endings,” “Modern Family,” “Casual,” “2 Broke Girls” as well as other shows and movies, too.

Peter Falk (The Grandfather)

As the grandfather, Falk was essentially telling the entire film. He was telling the story of this journey to his ill grandson and after watching the movie, you realize just how great and fun of a story it is for a child to listen to. Falk continued to tell stories in real life as an actor until in died in 2011 at 83.
