The alumni of hit film “High School Musical” held a homecoming reunion to support their former director, Kenny Ortega. The cast got together Friday for the premiere of Disney’s “Descendants” in Burkbank, California.
Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel , Olesya Rulin and Monique Coleman dressed up for a mini reunion nearly a decade after the first movie of the trilogy “High School Musical” aired.
The cast proved that their friendships lasted beyond high school grounds. To immortalize the moment, the HSM alumni snapped several photos of the event, and Tisdale, who played Sharpay Evans, shared a silly group photo on Instagram. “All of us supporting the guy that changed our lives,” the actress said in remembrance of Disney’s all-time favorite film. “So proud of @kennyorgetablog on his big night.” Meanwhile, her brother onscreen in the “High School Musical” films posted a much more formal shot and said: "#Descendants premiere with the old #HSM gang. So proud of @KennyOrtegaBlog. Love you buddy!"
Ortega also shared a photo with the Wildcats on Instagram. “ LOVE these kids! @corbinbleu @_moniquecoleman @ashleytisdale @mrgrabeel @olesyarulin #HighSchoolMusical #DisneyDescendants," he said. Ortega added: "What team? Wildcats! And how I love you all! Thank you for celebrating with me @ashleytisdale @corbinbleu @olesyarulin @_moniquecoleman @mrgrabeel #DisneyDescendants.”
“High School Musical” alumni Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens did not make it to the premiere due to their schedules, Us Weekly reported. Efron, who played Troy Bolton, is currently filming “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” with “Pitch Perfect” star Anna Kendrick. His onscreen girlfriend, Hudgens, just finished her Broadway show “Gigi” and is preparing for another project, Fox’s “Grease: Live.”
“Descendants” will premiere Friday, July 31, 8p.m. EDT on the Disney Channel.
