RTTNews - A higher open is expected Friday for Japan stocks, on the heels of Wall Street's gain overnight.

Japan stocks posted broad advances on Thursday.

The Nikkei 225 Average gained 205.76 points or 2.15 percent to close at 9,796.08. Among the Nikkei component stocks, 199 finished higher, 18 were lower and 8 were unchanged.

The broader Topix index advanced 17.31 points or 1.9 percent to 919.77.

A better than expected durable goods orders report from the United States boosted the markets as another signal the economy is improving.

Among the major exporters, Canon was up 70 yen or 2.19 percent, Sony was up 50 yen or 2.03 percent, Sharp Corp was up 26 yen or 2.65 percent and Honda was up 60 yen or 2.34 percent.

Elsewhere in the auto sector, Subaru maker Fuji Heavy was up 28 yen or 8.07 percent, Isuzu Motors was up 7 yen or 4.73 percent, Mazda gained 9 yen or 3.78 percent and Toyota was up 140 yen or 3.87 percent.

Among the major banks, Sumitomo Mitsui was unchanged, Mitsubishi UJF was up 12 yen or 2.02 percent, Mizuho Financial rose 3 yen or 1.26 percent and Resona Holdings advanced 32 yen or 2.35 percent. Regional bank Shinsei Bank advanced 16 yen or 11.03 percent.

Overseas, strong auction demand for U.S. treasury notes put Wall Street investors in a buying mood on Thursday. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 172.54 points or 2.08 percent at 8.472.40, the Nasdaq Composite index was up 37.20 points or 2.08 percent at 1,829.54 and the Standard & Poor's 500 index was up 19.32 points or 2.14 percent at 920.26.

With the exception of India's, all of the major markets in the Asia/Pacific region closed higher on Thursday.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 302.88 points or 2.14 percent at 18,275.03.

In China, the Shanghai Composite index rose 2.75 points or 0.09 percent to 2,925.05.

The day's only decliner was India's BSE 30 index, which fell 77.11 points or 0.53 percent to 14.345.62.

The Jakarta Composite index in Indonesia advanced 48.50 points or 2.43 percent to 2,044.17.

South Korea's KOSPI/Seoul Composite index was up 28.94 points or 2.12 percent to 1,392.73.

The Taiwan Weighted Index advanced 77.53 points or 1.22 percent to 6,457.61.
