Hitachi has halted production of its rear-projection based televisions for American consumers, the company said.

The Nikkan Kogyo Shimbum based company said on Tuesday that it has halted its production at its Mexican manufacturing plants, which typically serves North-America.

With flat panel TVs becoming more and more popular and affordable, Hitachi has decided to focus on plasma display and LCD models in the region, the report says.
