Honda Recall 2013: Automaker Recalls 46,000 Fit Sport Vehicles For Electronic Stability Control Issue [PHOTO]
Honda Motor Company (NYSE:HMC) is recalling 46,000 of its Fit vehicles in the United States and Canada to fix a problem with the electronic stability control (ESC) system software. Affected vehicles include model-year 2012-2013 Honda Fit Sport cars manufactured between May 23, 2011, and March 22, 2013.
The Tokyo-based automobile manufacturer is notifying all vehicle owners of the ESC issue, which may allow excessive yaw rates at high steering angles with certain tires. In short, the cars may tilt too far during sharp turns, possibly leading to loss of tire traction and increasing the risk of a crash, according to documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
About 2,000 cars in Canada and another 43,782 in the U.S. are affected by the recall, Honda said.
The Japanese automaker said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.
Honda will update the ESC software free of charge when owners respond to the recall, which begins May 17.
