Honda Motor Company (NYSE:HMC) announced on Thursday that it will recall more than 18,000 Honda and Acura vehicles to fix a problem with the brake booster. Affected vehicles include model-year 2006-2007 Honda S2000 and model-year 2006 Acura RSX.

In a press release, the American branch of the Japanese automaker explained that some of the parts in the brake booster system, also known as a vacuum servo, had not been manufactured in accordance with Honda’s specifications. The company said that no crashes or injuries have yet occurred as a result of the problem, but the mistake could gradually lead to decreased brake resistance and possibly increase the risk of a crash.

Honda attributed the brake problem to a production error and said that they had discovered the problem through warranty claim analysis. Honda said it will begin notifying customers in mid-July. The recall will affect 5,239 of its Honda models and 13,113 Acuras.

This is the second brake-related recall the company has voluntarily undergone in the past three months. In March, nearly 250,000 Honda vehicles were also recalled for a brake defect.

In April, Honda again recalled 46,000 of its Fit vehicles in the United States and Canada due to an issue with its electronic stability control system software that caused some cars to tilt too far during sharp turns. The company began notifying those affected customers in mid-May.
