Honda Motor Co. on Friday announced the recall of 440,000vehicles due to airbag fault.

The recall which began last November affects certain 2001-2002 Honda Accords, 2001 Civics, and 2002-2003 Acura TLs and will require the replacement of the driver's side airbag inflator.

Honda said that a potential flaw in the airbag inflator could cause the inflator's casing to rupture and spray metal fragments potentially injuring or killing passengers.

Affected customers will receive recall notices in the mail.
