Honda Motor Co. has issued a recall on 900,000 Odyssey minivans from model years 2005-2010 built in the automaker's Lincoln, Ala., plant for a part in the fuel pump that could crack and cause fuel leakage, which could be a fire risk. The recall was reported Friday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The part in question, a fuel pump strainer, was built in the U.S. by Japanese supplier Denso. Honda is looking into potential causes of cracks, including acids from chemicals at car washes and low-pH materials in fertilizers.

Proper repair parts won't be available until this summer due to the high number of vehicles affected. Honda will provide "interim" parts to customers, who will be notifed in April.
