Horsehead Holding Corp. announced that it is resuming operations at one of its Zinc recycling facilities due to an increase in demand. Jim Hensler, the CEO of Horsehead Holding Corp., said “We remain hopeful that the economy will continue to strengthen as we head towards the 4(th) quarter of 2009.”
The facility is located in Rockwood, Tennessee, and was closed earlier due to the recession. Horsehead Holding Corp plans on starting one of two kilns by mid September 2009. In July 2009, the company restarted a zinc smelter located in Monaca, PA, due also to increased demand.
The facility processes electric arc furnace dust, a by-product of steel manufacturing. The dust contains 20% Zinc byproducts that can be used after processing by Horsehead Holding Corp.
