House Republican Whip Eric Cantor released a statement Friday following the release of the March jobs report.

Earlier in the day, the Labor Department released its monthly jobs report, showing that 663,000 jobs were lost during the month of March. It also showed the unemployment rate at 8.5%.

Today's Labor Department report underscores what Republicans have said from day one - that every policy must be evaluated on whether it creates jobs, strengthens America's long-term fiscal outlook, and helps middle-class working families and small businesses, Cantor said.

He added that the budget proposed by Congressional Democrats lacks a clear focus, is outside the mainstream and fails to prioritize the real problems facing our nation.

Raising taxes on job creators and hard working entrepreneurs is the wrong approach, Cantor continued, and Republicans will continue fighting for hard working Americans and trying to convince Democrats that every policy must be viewed through the prism of job creation.
