Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are already engaged, and their royal wedding is expected to take place sometime in May 2018.

After dating a slew of women in the past, Prince Harry decided to only get engaged to Markle. The “Suits” actress, on the other hand, was previously married to Trevor Engelson, but since their divorce in 2013, Markle has not committed herself to anyone to the point of actually tying the knot.

But one of the most obvious ways that may prove the couple’s “profound commitment” to each other is the fact that they both want their wedding to take place at a church.

Before Markle and Prince Harry’s engagement was announced, there were speculations that they union won’t be held in church because of her status as a divorcee. But this changed after the palace confirmed that their wedding will take place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

“I am very, very sure after conversations that this is no tick-box exercise of ‘We ought to get married in church,’ there is a profound sense of commitment, of seriousness both about faith and about their lives together which is quite inspirational,” Justin Webly, the Archbishop of Canterbury told BBC Radio’s “Today” (via People).

Prior to her wedding to Prince Harry, Markle would also be baptized and confirmed in the Church of England. According to US Weekly, the former actress identifies herself as a Protestant even though she attended Catholic high school. Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland, is a Protestant, while her dad, Thomas Markle, is a Presbyterian.

Markle’s decision to be baptized and confirmed in the Church of England also proves her commitment not only to Prince Harry, but his entire family. The prince’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England.

Additionally, Markle will become a British citizen after she ties the knot with Prince Harry.

“Ms. Markle will be compliant with all immigration requirements at all times,” a royal aide declared while at a recent briefing.

As of late, it is still unclear whether or not Markle will also keep her U.S. citizenship.
