The students in “How to Get Away with Murder” Season 1 finally murdered Sam (Tom Verica) in episode 9, but they still have to figure out how to get away with it. The cover-up will continue when the show returns in the spring, but they might not be able to fake their innocence for long.

"They'll definitely feel pressure and feel paranoid and scared," executive producer Pete Nowalk told E! Online. "They're not criminals by nature. This is new for them, and the fun will be to watch how they all handle it, in a very scary and different way than you'd expect. That tension is going to permeate through the entire rest of the season."

That tension will only increase when they realize that Rebecca (Katie Findlay) doesn’t have an alibi. While the others took pictures at the bonfire and posted them on social media to prove that they were somewhere besides the Keating house, Rebecca has nothing. Wes (Alfred Enoch) immediately put her in a motel room to hide her.

While in the motel room, Rebecca called 911. She put the phone down and said she made a mistake. No one should know that Rebecca was there, but she is still involved in the Lila Stangard (Megan West) trial. A jury is watching her very closely, and that could reveal her involvement with Sam’s murder. That call “will come back to haunt them all,” TVGuide reports.

"She panicked for a second and made a mistake ... but they need a whole story for that," Findlay told TV Guide. "Did anyone see [her and Wes] there? Can they prove that it was Rebecca? She doesn't have an [alibi] for the night."

Without an alibi, Rebecca is the only student that could be connected to Sam’s murder. After he killed a man for her, it doesn’t seem like Wes would let her go down for his crime. But Wes might not want to spend the rest of his life in jail either.

The only other “How To Get Away With Murder” character with a seemingly questionable alibi is Annalise (Viola Davis). She was with Nate (Billy Brown), but would she be willing to tell a court that? She would likely have to explain that she was cheating on Sam with Nate, and Nate has testified in plenty of Annalise’s cases, despite the conflict of interest. It might be too risky for her to tell the truth.
