Users of the Samsung Galaxy S3 with the model number GT-I9300 can update their handsets to Android 4.4.4 KitKat with the help of a new custom firmware called LiquidSmooth KitKat ROM. The new LiquidSmooth ROM is an after-market firmware based on the Android Open Source Project, or AOSP.

The LiquidSmooth KitKat ROM includes many features, such as lock screen style, notification reminder, hardware key binding, custom carrier label, advanced reboot, list view animations and custom tiles.

The new custom ROM for the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 is not an official release by Samsung, so users will need to root their device before flashing the firmware. The device is also required to have custom recovery, such as ClockworkMod, to flash the ROM.

Here are some points to remember before installing the custom ROM:

  • Users must ensure proper backup for personal data on the phone.
  • The handset should have at least 80 percent battery power.
  • USB drivers for the Galaxy S3 must be installed on the computer.
  • USB debugging must be enabled on the phone.
  • The tutorial is only for the Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT- I9300).
