Claire Danes and husband Hugh Dancy welcomed their first child together on Monday, son Cyrus Michael Christopher Dancy, a rep told Us Weekly. And according to the New York Post, the new dad quickly notified family and friends to let them know that all were doing well.

In an email, the 37-year-old "Martha Marcy May Marlene" actor announced that Cyrus had been born at "exactly at 3 p.m.," and weighed just under 7 pounds. "Mother and baby are well, healthy, and happy," Dancy wrote. "Together we send our love to you all."

Dancy and Danes, 33, first met in 2006 when they filmed the drama "Evening" in Newport, R.I. In 2009, they were married in a small ceremony in France. Danes later described the initial stages of their relationship as low-key, saying that they first got to know each other on the set, over boardgames like Scrabble and Boggle. While she confided that she still has her doubts about whether or not monogamy is a realistic system, she described the work she puts into her relationship with Dancy as "energizing" rather draining.

“He’s such a cutie patootie,” Danes gushed to Black Book magazine. "While relationships are work, this just didn’t feel like it. It’s the kind of work that feels energizing rather than enervating. I find it very freeing to know that, okay, it takes constant nurturing and attention, but I can also stop looking for the one.”

“I’ve always wanted to be in a partnership, I’ve always wanted to have that kind of intimacy and collaborate with someone in such a deep way," she continued. "But I think that can be achieved in a lot of ways. I was talking to my friend recently about monogamy—is it feasible, is it realistic? I resolved that there isn’t really a better model. We just can’t shake monogamy. It definitely demands a kind of rigor and discipline and selflessness. But it’s also fun.”

But despite the relative ease in her marriage, Danes said she wasn't quite sure what to expect from motherhood. In a September appearance on "Anderson Live," the "Homeland" star revealed that she had given up on trying to predict what having a child in her life would be like but was sure it would be a "profound change."

“There’s no way of anticipating what that’s going to mean for us, but we are very excited,” said Danes. "We are going to love this person, I know that."
