RTTNews - Thursday, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office announced that the consumer prices increased 3.8% year-on-year in May, faster than a 3.4% rise in April.

Food prices increased the most on an annual basis in May, rising 7.2%, much faster than a 4.2% rise in the previous month. Utility prices climbed 8.5%, slower than a 11.3% increase of the past two months.

Month-on-month, the consumer prices were up 1.5% in May compared to a 0.8% increase in the preceding month.

For the first five months of the year, consumer prices rose 3.2% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Meanwhile, the harmonized index of consumer prices or HICP climbed 3.8% annually in May, and was up 1.5% compared to April, similar to the consumer price index. The core inflation rate stood at a seasonally adjusted 3.1% in May compared to the previous year, and was 0.4% compared to April.
