Tuesday, the Hungary's Central Statistical Office announced that the consumer price index or CPI rose 3.4% year-over-year in April, faster than the 2.9% increase in the previous month. Economists were looking an increase of 2.9%. A year ago, the CPI was up 6.6%.

On a monthly basis, the CPI increased 0.8% in April, after rising 0.5% in March.

For the January to April period, consumer prices were up 3.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Meanwhile, the harmonized index of consumer prices or HICP rose 3.2% year-on-year in April, and the HICP was up 0.9% compared to the preceding month.
