Hydrogenics Corp. is a leading global developer and manufacturer of hydrogen generation and fuel cell products. The company has over 60 years of experience designing, manufacturing, building and installing industrial and commercial hydrogen systems worldwide.
The company announced today that it has received a contract from Statue Cruises LLC for the delivery of two HyPM HD 16 fuel cell power modules delivering up to 33 kilowatts of continuous power for one of its ships. The 600-passenger hybrid ferry will be propelled by hydrogen fuel cells in a compund hybrid arrangement along with wind turbines, solar panels and a tier 2 diesel engine for additional energy needs.
Hydrogenics will also aid the parent company of Statue Cruises, Hornblower Cruises & Events, in another way. It will support Hornblower’s US Coast Guard certification process by utilizing Hydrogenics’ vast experience in working with many of the leading certification bodies throughout the world.
From both an environmental and efficiency viewpoint, the marine market is well poised to benefit from the type of fuel cells that Hydrogenics produces. When in harbor, vessels typically utilize diesel-powered main engines or auxiliary power units emitting large amounts of emissions and noise into the environment. Hydrogen fuel cells emit no emissions and comparatively little noise.
