International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) announced software designed for reducing cost.

The Tivoli Storage Manager 6 will improve scalability and address performance, reduce duplicates, and simplify the overall management data protection infrastructure. As part of IBM's Service Management strategy, Tivoli Storage Manager 6 aims to cut capital expenditures, reducing risks and energy consumption.

General manager Al Zollar of IBM Tivoli in a press release statement says that a Large or small, businesses today are faced with ever-increasing amounts of data and pressures to cut costs. The new features introduced with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager 6 will help customers manage the explosion of data while maintaining reliable access to important business information. With increased visibility into data growth and enhanced scalability, customers can accommodate increased volumes of data, control the rate of backup data growth and improve efficiency across their storage environments.

In a report from IBM internal studies, a customers can get as much as 300% improvement in backup performance when a Tivoli team ups with IBM's DB2 database software that will surely cut operational costs with improved scalability and performance.

The new software will also offer new reporting and monitoring features with a quick and easy create custom reports flexibility.

The IBM Tivoli Storage Manager 6 will be available March 27, 2009.
