The sport of ice hockey in Belarus witnessed a rather bizarre incident on Sunday, when the coach of a visiting team grabbed a hockey stick and took a couple of swipes at fans seated behind him.

Vityaz Chekhov were playing Dinamo Minsk, in the Kontinental Hockey League, when home supporters threw plastic bottles onto the ice, disgruntled at the dirty tactics employed by the Vityaz players.

A furious Vityaz coach, Andrei Nazarov, reacted by seizing a nearby stick, attempting to reach over the glass barrier and strike the fans.

He broke the stick in half after continuously striking the barrier and failing to reach the fans, before snatching another stick of a player in a second attempt.

The incident ended when security personnel rushed to the spot and ushered the enraged fans away.

Minsk eventually won the game 3-2. Nazarov has been banned for two games.
