RTTNews - Iceland's unemployment rate in the second quarter rose to 9.1% from 7.1% in the first quarter, the Statistics Iceland said Wednesday. A year ago, the jobless rate was 3.1% in the second quarter.

The unemployment rate was 10.6% for men and 7.2% for women. The rate was highest among persons aged 16-24 years old, or 21.9%.

The number of unemployed persons increased by 10,900 since the second quarter of 2008, the statistical office said.
