When Nicki Minaj made a side comment on stage at the 2014 BET Awards on June 29, many assumed it was an insult about “Fancy” star Iggy Azalea. Azalea’s boyfriend Nick Young defended her at the 2014 ESPY Body Issue Party at Los Angeles’ Lure nightclub Tuesday when the Los Angeles Lakers player, 29, was asked about the apparent dig.

"Oh man! You know, it is what it is," Young told reporters, according to Us Weekly. "I had to deal with the aftermath when she came home."

"When she got home and was going through her phone and hearing all the things and people talking trash about her, you know I had to be there for her," the athlete continued. "But you know what, Iggy is doing big things and its scaring a lot of people!"

Minaj, 31, and Azalea, 24, were up against each other for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist category. Minaj won the honor, for the fifth straight time, and while she was on stage she said, “"What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is, when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it."

Young explained his girlfriend isn’t worried about the apparent insult thrown her way. "She kind of brushed it off!" he said. "She don't let it get to her. She's number one right now so what can you do when you are at the top right now? Of course they will all come at you!"

Australian rapper Azalea recently rose to fame early this summer with two singles on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to her collaboration with Ariana Grande, which led to “Problem,” and a different team-up with Charlie XCX that churned out “Fancy.”

Young offered some insight into the times when she isn’t making music and he isn’t on the basketball court. "We will go roller skating or we will go to Six Flags, we have a good time!" Young explained. "We do down-to-earth stuff. People don’t even notice us. We will have sweats and hoodies on at Six Flags, you know we have a good time!"
