A Nevada gunman who went on a shooting rampage in an IHOP restaurant has died in a Reno hospital.

The gunman killed three people and injured several others, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported, and his motive for shooting has not been identified by authorities.

He died a few hours after shooting himself in the head, the RGJ reported.

The shooting took place in a Carson City, Nevada IHOP during the breakfast hour on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported.

Witnesses say he drove into the parking lot around 9 a.m. in a blue minivan and shot a man on a motorcycle before going inside and shooting more people, the RGJ reported.

He then went back outside and shot at nearby businesses.

Five of the people shot were members of the Nevada National Guard, the RGJ reported.

Local officials temporarily locked down the state Capitol and Supreme Court buildings and put in extra security measures at government buildings in the northern part of the state, according to Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong, the AP reported.

There were concerns at the onset, so we took certain steps to ensure we had the capability to embrace an even larger circumstance, Furlong said, the AP reported. At this point in time it appears to be isolated to this parking lot.
