RTTNews - Foreigners purchased a total of $123.6 billion in U.S. securities in June, new data from the U.S. Treasury Department showed Monday.
This came with a huge jump in amount of treasury bonds bought overseas, as the U.S. government ramps up its debt sales in order to finance its stimulus efforts.
Private institutions from outside the U.S. bought $105.2 billion worth of U.S. securities in June - more than triple the $31.3 billion purchased in May. The total included $78 billion in treasury bonds.
Meanwhile, foreign governments bought $18.4 billion in U.S. securities in June, after net selling of $23.4 billion in May. Official institutions from outside the U.S. bought $22.5 billion in U.S. treasuries.
There was net selling of $32.9 billion in foreign securities during the month. Net foreign acquisitions f long-term securities totaled $71.3 billion in June.
