India's inflation based on wholesale price index for the week ended April 25, 2009 rose marginally to 0.70% from 0.57% in the previous week. Inflation was 8.27% during the corresponding week of last year, according to government data.

The index of primary articles rose during the week following rise in prices of tea, bajra, arhar, milk, wheat and soyabean. However, the prices of masur, fruits and vegetables declined. The prices of fuel, power, light and lubricants group remained unchanged.

Among manufactured products group, prices of skimmed milk powder, rice bran oil, ghee, sugar and gingelly oil increased. The index of chemicals and chemicals products group rose while the index of basic metals alloys and metal products declined.

The inflation for the week ended February 28, 2009 was revised upwards to 2.47% compared to the earlier reported 2.43%.
