India's infrastructure business, which accounts for 38 percent of the country's industrial activity, grew 4.6 percent in May from a year earlier, government data released on Friday showed.

According to government reports, infrastructure has expanded at a faster pace than an upwardly revised annual growth of 4.2 percent in the previous month.

Output grew 3.4 percent between April and May, compared with 5 percent in the year-earlier period.

Indian infrastructure stocks rose in anticipation of the government's push for investments in the sector.
