RTTNews - India's President Pratibha Patil called for boosting consumer demand and thereby gaining confidence in institutions and markets that could help overcome the current global economic slowdown, reports PTI. She said that it needed products that could meet the standards of quality and services that would give assurance of safety.

Patil, inaugurating a committee meet on Consumer Policy, she noted that it was due to the strong consumer demand that India was less impacted by the financial meltdown and stressed the need of consumer protection that is vital part of achieving the targeted national economic growth as well as sound business approach.
