RTTNews - After a gap-up opening, the Indian market rose further and is now trading firm on Friday, helped by strong global cues and upbeat June-quarter earnings from top blue chip companies.
The BSE Sensex is trading at a new 2009 high of 15,686, up 298 points or 1.94% and the S&P CNX Nifty is trading at 4,856, up 1.85%.
On the BSE, the small-cap index is up 1.68%, while the mid-cap and the broad-based BSE 500 indexes are up around 2% each. The market breadth is extremely positive, with 1483 gainers compared to 408 losers. Sector-wise, consumer durable, oil/gas,metal and auto stocks are leading the gainers, while power healthcare and FMCG stocks are showing modest gains.
Among the top gainers, Tata Motors, Hindalco and Sterlite are up around 4% each, Mahindra & Mahindra is rising 3.63% and SBI is up 3.16%.
ONGC, Reliance Industries, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, HDFC Bank, Reliance Infrastructure, DLF, Reliance Communication, Maruti Suzuki, Infosys and BHEL are the other prominent gainers. All 30 Sensex stocks are now trading in positive territory.
DLF is rising 2.47% even as its consolidated net profit for the three months ended June slumped 79% year-over-year. On a sequential basis, the company's net profit jumped around one and half times to Rs.396 crore from Rs 159.05 crore in the previous quarter.
Bharti Airtel is up a modest 0.33% on reports the exclusivity period for discussion on a possible merger with South Africa's MTN group could be extended by a few weeks. BPCL is trading almost unchanged on reports that it is in discussions to raise money for its Bina refining subsidiary.
Oil explorer Reliance Industries is up 2.14%, Cairn India is rising 3.14% and ONGC is adding nearly 3% after crude oil price jumped over 5% in New York trading on Thursday.
Reliance Infrastructure is gaining 1.64% on the back of a 25% year-over-year rise in its quarterly net profit. TV Today Network is climbing over 5% after it reported an 81% y-o-y rise in its quarterly net profit and approved the de-merger of its radio business.
ABB is up 1.43%, Hindalco is up nearly 4%, Reliance Communications is adding 2.36%, Suzlon Energy is rising 3.48% and Tata Power is up 1.17% ahead of the announcement of their quarterly earnings today.
