JAKARTA - An Indonesian government official said on Tuesday that 24 miners had been trapped underground following an explosion in a coal mine in Sumatra island.

Syafriwal, head of the government mining division in Sawahlunto city in West Sumatra, denied earlier reports that the accident was due to a landslide near a coal mine operated by state coal miner PT Bukit Asam.

It's not a landslide, but an explosion at an underground mine, the official said.
