Warner Bros. Interactive has announced that Doctor Fate is the newest addition to the Injustice 2 roster. Developer NetherRealm Studios has also given some fresh details on how the game’s new gear system works.

The newly released gameplay video for Injustice 2 shows Doctor Fate fighting against Superman, Cyborg and Atrocitus. The video showcased most of Doctor Fate’s combos, ranged attacks and special abilities, as well as his special move.

For those unfamiliar, Doctor Fate is a sorcerer whose actual name is Kent Nelson. In the Golden Age DC Comics, Kent Nelson learned the mystic arts from Nabu the Wise. As Doctor Fate, he co-founded the Justice Society of America, the Earth-Two counterpart of the Justice League.

Injustice 2 will feature a new gear system wherein players will be able to customize the look of their favorite characters. Gears can also enhance a character’s strength, defense and health. The new information on the gear system for Injustice 2 was shared by Polygon.

All character included on Injustice 2 will already come with stock gear for their head, torso, arms and legs. There’s also an extra accessory slot. By playing through the game, players will be able to collect items which they can mix and match when customizing a character.

“There are two main ways to earn gear: conquering opponents in online and offline modes, or by purchasing Mother Boxes using gold earned from matches,” Sony’s Sid Shuman said on the PlayStation Blog.

Some gears may also include augments that could add new animations and visuals to a character’s attack. The extra accessory slot is also a game-changer as players will be able to change their weaponry. For example, Batman’s utility belt can be replaced by something a lot stronger, or players can choose to change Harley Quinn’s pistols.

After applying new gear on a character, Injustice 2 will allow players to keep customizing by changing a hero or villain’s color scheme. Customizing a character’s fighting style is also possible with the new loadout feature as well.

Injustice 2 has May 16 release date and will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One. The game also has a mobile version for Android and iOS devices, but that doesn’t have a firm release date yet.
