iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak For iPhone 5 Status Update: Pod2g, Planetbeing Make ‘Nice Progress’; 2 New Vulnerabilities Found

Considering the lack of significant updates relating to the highly anticipated iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for months, many people started losing the hope thinking that such an exploit would never exist. But renowned iOS hacker Planetbeing revived the lost hope when he announced earlier this month that he had an untethered iOS 6.0.2 jailbreak running on his own iPhone 5.

Renowned iOS hacker Planetbeing announced via Twitter that he, along with pod2g, had made significant progress in terms of developing the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak.

Adding to it, the hacker perked up the whole scene even further by offering some more good news to the jailbreak community this weekend – pod2g turning his attention back into iOS 6 jailbreak and, of course, the duo making some serious progress in terms of developing the untethered exploit.

On Friday, Planetbeing took to his Twitter account and said that he spent the day with pod2g, working on the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.

“Made some nice progress today with @pod2g. I think I’ll try to reward myself with a nap,” Planetbeing tweeted.

To this, pod2g responded confirming his active involvement in developing the iOS untethered jailbreak.

“@planetbeing oh yeah! 2 new vulnerabilities in a day, chance was with us. But we still miss that initial code execution for a public jb,” pod2g tweeted.

It’s indeed great news that pod2g is back to the game, after being busy setting up his own company called “2G Lab” that focuses on two different areas -- development and security research.

However, as the hacker himself has pointed out, there is still way to go for the public release of the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak since an initial code execution is still missing.

“@fonfryer @pod2g @planetbeing yea, we're still missing the initial code sign and on boot code sign,” tweeted another well-known iOS hacker, Joshua Hill, aka p0sixninja.

Is Imminent iOS 6.1 a Concern?

Reports surfaced recently suggesting that the fifth and probably the last beta of iOS 6.1 was currently in the final testing phase and would be released to the developers soon. The reports suggest that if everything goes as expected, this will be the Golden Master build of iOS 6.1.

According to Redmond Pie, given the iOS 6.1 is approaching, “the dev teams involved in iOS 6 jailbreak will likely wait for Apple to release iOS 6.1 before releasing any untether tool for newer devices.”

For those users waiting for an iOS 6 untethered jailbreak, it is recommended to stick with the firmware they currently have and avoid updating to any new official build.
