At a time when millions of jailbreak users around the world are shaken by the news that Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) latest iOS 7.1 firmware update has patched evasi0n7, the untethered solution that could jailbreak devices running iOS 7, the Internet is buzzing with some false claims that the iOS 7.1 jailbreak has been released, and that it can be performed on both the iPhone and iPad.

According to a report from GottaBeMobile, a website called 7jailbreak.com has claimed to offer a “remote jailbreak” for iOS 7.1, which works on all iPhone models, including the iPhone 5s; the current iPad line-up and multiple iPod touch models. The website said that users can jailbreak their iPhones on iOS 7.1 by simply clicking on a link, without having to connect the device to a computer.

7jailbreak.com also used the name of Joshua Hill, a renowned jailbreak developer also known as p0sixninja, who has made significant contributions to the development of many popular jailbreak tools in the past. However, Hill has already confirmed that he is not associated with the site, and called the claims about the iOS 7.1 jailbreak “all lies,” GottaBeMobile reported.

When a user follows the instructions for the remote iOS 7.1 jailbreak, a pop-up appears on the website, directing to a page to download an app. This leads the user to the App store to download an app through a link, which apparently makes money for the owner of the site.

Meanwhile, iOS hacker Pod2g, a member of evad3rs, recently said that his team is not working actively on an iOS 7.1 jailbreak.

“For iOS 7.1, I don't know ... there is a big chance the evad3rs won't focus on it as a team ... expect that for iOS 8,” Pod2g told International Digital Times in an interview.

The hacker also said that he would consider working on the iOS 7.1 jailbreak only if he is bored.

“If one day, I find myself bored and can put enough time and energy into it, I have some ideas for how to make a 7.1 jailbreak ... depending on how it has been fixed and other external events.”

While Pod2g’s remark does not confirm anything about the likelihood of an iOS 7.1 jailbreak, the hacker did not completely rebuff the possibility. It is worth noting here that evad3rs released the iOS 6.1.3 jailbreak, after telling users to “forget about it.”
