Samsung and Apple are suing and countersuing each other in countries around the world, so now's a good time to figure out where they stand in the equally contentious world of smartphones. One day after Apple announced the iPhone 4S, Samsung has sent out a promotional video about it's new phone, presumed to be the Android-powered Nexus Prime.

The video has the tagline 'Something Big is Coming,' and at the end, it depicts a curved mobile phone that could be the Nexus Prime. It could come out as early as Oct. 11 when Samsung holds its Unpacked press conference. Additionally, the Nexus line of smartphones are the official Google line and this would be Samsung's second one after the Nexus S that came out in 2010.

Obviously, there hasn't been the fever pitch of hype surrounding the Nexus Prime as there is for any Apple product, but perhaps there should be. Google is widely believed to be unveiling their latest update to Android OS, this version being called Ice Cream Sandwich. It's a mashup of Android 2.3 and Android 3.2, and it's a new operating system meant for both tablets and smartphones. Nexus Prime could be the device it debuts on, so iPhone 4S would have a legitimate contender, what with Prime bringing new software and hardware advancements.

The specs are not known for Nexus Prime, but it's believed to be readying the curved screen, thin profile, a 1.5 GHz dual core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 4.65-inch 720p Super AMOLED HD display for the Oct. 11 launch. The world didn't get a new iPhone 5 this week, but it turns out next week will be huge too because both the iPhone 4S and Nexus Prime could be hitting stores.
