There are a lot of rumors going around regarding Apple’s iPhone 8, and it looks like it will keep pouring in as the device’s official reveal nears. A new rumor claims that the iPhone 8 will be available in three storage capacities: 64GB, 256GB and 512GB.

This new piece of information on the iPhone 8 was shared online by a user of Chinese social network site Weibo. The leaker, known as GeekBar on Weibo, also shared a photo of what appears to be a SanDisk 64GB NAND flash memory module.

GeekBar said that SanDisk will be responsible for supplying memory modules for the iPhone 8’s 256GB model, while Toshiba is also mentioned as a supplier. The leaker also claimed that the 512GB module will be provided by Samsung and SK Hynix.

The new info on the iPhone 8’s storage capacities may sound a bit ridiculous, but it isn’t really unfounded. Earlier rumors suggested that the iPhone 8’s price would be a lot more expensive than any of the previous iPhones simply because of the larger storage options.

However, the rumored 512GB storage capacity for the newest iPhone still seems a bit too good to be true. This is actually the first time that a specific storage size is mentioned, for previous leaks and reports have claimed that the iPhone 8 would only have 64GB and 256GB storage options.

Currently, the only iOS devices to ever have 512GB of storage are the 2017 iPad Pro models. If this new rumor about the iPhone 8 turns out to be true, then it just simply makes sense that Apple wants to have an iPhone model with that kind of storage capacity, as pointed out by 9To5Mac.

This rumored storage capacity may just be overkill for most users, but there are people out there demanding larger storage options for their smartphones so they can carry around all their music, movies and photos with them. All iPhones released thus far don’t support expandable storage, so offering a 512GB model for the iPhone 8 should make consumers happy. That said, the 512GB iPhone 8 will certainly be the most premium and most expensive variant. The popular rumor right now is that the iPhone 8 might cost $1,000.

In addition, the leaker claimed that the iPhone 8 will only have 3GB of RAM. This falls in line with KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s previous prediction that the iPhone 8 and iPhone 7s will arrive with 3GB of RAM, while the iPhone 7s will only have 2GB.

Kuo also claimed at the time that the DRAM transfer speeds on the three new iPhones will be around 10 to 15 faster than the iPhone 7. He claims that Apple wanted to speed up the performance in order to deliver better performance for augmented reality experiences, according to MacRumors.

None of these have been officially confirmed yet, so it’s bets to take all of it with a grain of salt. Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 8 next month, so everyone will get all their questions about the device answered then.

According to Mac4Ever, Apple might hold its iPhone 8 event on Sept. 12. The website claims that mobile carriers were already informed about the iPhone 8 announcement date so that they could prepare inventory and marketing.
