The government of Israel said it is monitoring two Iranian warships which seeks to pass through the Suez Canal for Syria (an ally of Iran) and warn they might react to any provocation.

Israeli's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Israel cannot ignore these provocations” and noted that Iranian warships had not sailed through the canal in “many years.”

Tonight, two Iranian warships are meant to pass through the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean Sea and reach Syria, something that has not happened in many years, Lieberman said in a Jerusalem speech.

To my regret, the international community is not showing readiness to deal with the recurring Iranian provocations. The international community must understand that Israel cannot forever ignore these provocations.

Lieberman also said the Iranian vessels were a provocation that proves Iran's nerve and self-esteem is growing from day to day.

Israel will know how to deal with it, a senior Israeli official was quoted as saying.

Iran had announced plans to deploy warships near Israel and dock at a Syrian port for a year, states IsraelNationalNews.com.

According to media reports, intelligence officials think the Iranian warships might be involved in supplying weapons to radical Islamic groups in Yemen.

The current leader of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has long made threats against Israel and there are fears in US and Europe that he is developing nuclear weapons.
