An Israeli Defense Forces soldier may have been captured on Friday morning, officials said. Reports say that Hamas fired at IDF soldiers about 90 minutes into the U.N.- and U.S.-brokered humanitarian cease-fire and managed to capture a soldier after a suicide bombing in a tunnel. The soldier, who was allegedly taken captive and brought into a tunnel, is 23-year-old Lt. Hadar Goldin. Two other soldiers were killed in the attack.

At least 12 Facebook pages have already been created in his honor, calling for him to come home. In the short 30 minutes since the name was announced, the pages garnered more than a thousand followers.

Soon after the IDF confirmed the kidnapping, major clashes took place in Rafah. Palestinian media is reporting that at least 50 have died from Israeli shelling and hundreds have been injured, making it one of the most lethal humanitarian cease-fires during the last 25 days of “Operation Protective Edge.”

As far as Israel and the United Nations is concerned, Hamas violated the cease-fire and fighting has resumed.

"The United Nations is not in a position to independently confirm these reports," said United Nations Envoy Robert Serry. "However, if corroborated, this would constitute a serious violation of the humanitarian cease-fire in place since 8 A.M. this morning by Gazan militant factions, which should be condemned in the strongest terms."

However, it’s still unclear if Hamas fired during “ongoing operations,” in the tunnels. According to a Tweet posted by IDF Spokesperson Lieutenant Peter Lerner, “terrorists attacked #IDF forces operating on a tunnel. The original cease-fire terms stated that all attacks must end, but that all forces would remain on the ground.

Since the start of the offensive July 8, at least 1,500 Palestinians have died, according to the Gaza Health Ministry and more than 7,000 have been wounded, 61 Israeli soldiers and three civilians have died and one soldier is feared to have been kidnapped.
