Israeli troops killed at least one Syrian crossing the nation's northern border on Sunday as another 100 crossed amid protests by Palestinians marking the 1948 establishment of Israel, known as Nabka Day.

Senior Israeli Defense Forces officers accused Syrian President Bashar Assad and the Iranian government of supporting the Syrian crossing, the Jerusalem Post reported.

We are determined to defend our borders and our sovereignty, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

IDF troops defended used crowd dispersion techniques, including firing at protesters' legs at the village of Majdal Shams.

I gave them the order when I understood that we will find ourselves with thousands of people in Majdal, said Col. Eshkol Sukran, who commands the Golan Regional Brigade, according to the Jersualem Post.
